The St Louis Catholic School Clinic works with the Lions Club to hold an annual vision and hearing screening in the spring. Lions Clubs of Northern Virginia use the PediaVision screening device (referred to as SPOT) to identify children whose eyes may have some type of defect, which if left untreated, may lead to a lifetime of vision problems or blindness. The screening unit is similar in appearance to a digital camera. All students are encouraged to participate in this free screening. For more information about the Lions program please see their website.
The hearing test screens students’ hearing at 25 decibels at four Hertz levels, 1000, 2000, 3000 & 4000 (Hz). If a student fails to respond to the tone more than once, we recommend a referral or retest. When students are recommended for a referral, the school nurse makes every effort to rescreen the student to rule out distraction or misunderstanding of directions.
