Mrs. Susan Findley, Band Director
Playing a band instrument is great fun for students, and it also teaches many lessons about hard work, dedication and persistence, creativity, and working as a team. Families are welcome to take advantage of this chance to participate in a great music program, which is available to 4th-8th Grade students.
The band program at St. Louis School is part of the Garwood Whaley Musis Program, which is the instrumental music program for the schools in the Diocese of Arlington. Instruction is given in the following instruments:
- alto saxophone
- French horn
Band day is Monday each week. Students receive half-hour lessons during the school day. Band is scheduled at a different time each week so that students can keep track academically. For students who have progressed beyond the beginner level, after-school band practice is from 2:15-3:15pm on Mondays.
The band program provides affordable instruction as well. Over the course of the school year, you will pay less than $10.00 per lesson (not including the cost of the instrument rental) for quality instruction. Your child will also have the opportunity to play in two or three concerts during the year. This fee goes directly to the Garwood Whaley Program.
The study of music is unlike any other academic endeavor. Studies have shown that children who study music can experience development in intelligence and increased success in school. The discipline of studying music leads to the development of lifetime skills that will benefit your child for the rest of his/her life.
