The purpose of the St. Louis Catholic School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is to encourage scholarship, promote leadership, provide opportunities for service within the school and have a membership that demonstrates the highest character.
Membership in the organization is an honor earned by the student. Selection for membership is by a Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities. Specifically:
- Members must maintain an overall average of 85 in all subjects in which a numeric grade is given. A member that falls below this average will be put on probation. They will be given an appropriate amount of time to improve their grades to maintain membership. Failure to improve their grades within this time period will result in removal from the Chapter. Along with maintaining an 85 average in all subjects, National Junior Honor Society students will also perform 10 hours of academic service to the St. Louis School community. This academic service will be completed during school hours and within St. Louis school. Failure to complete this requirement will be cause for removal.
- National Junior Honor Society students are expected to demonstrate the highest character. A member who receives a detention for academic dishonesty may be removed from the Chapter.
- National Junior Honor Society students are expected to demonstrate leadership within the school community and set an appropriate example for the rest of the student body, Middle School and the Main School. They are expected to follow the rules of the school as outlined in the student handbook. Any student who is suspended for an infraction of school rules will be removed from the Chapter.
- Students are expected to perform service to St. Louis Catholic School. A total of 10 hours of community service, based on projects created by the Faculty Council of St. Louis School, are required. Service hours will be completed during the school year and during school hours. Failure to complete this requirement will be cause for removal from the Chapter.
